What wax is, and is not
Wax is a wearing layer, not a permanent coating. It gradually breaks down through weather, washing and UV exposure, which is exactly why it works — it takes the abuse instead of your paint. It does need reapplying periodically.
It is also not paint correction. Existing swirls and defects remain underneath; wax makes clean paint look better and gives it some protection. If your finish has real damage, wax is not the answer to that.
